Information on the HIC Connect Groups

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another — and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” Hebrews 10:24,25

He who asks a question is a fool for five minutes; he who does not ask a question remains a fool forever.”
Chinese Proverb

Principles

These groups meet together in people’s homes to study, share and support.

1. Study

We gather round God’s Word, the Bible, to study it, to ask questions of it and to learn from it. We do so in a spirit of submission, acknowledging that what God has to say on any subject is far more important than any human opinion. We believe our main purpose in life is to glorify God and enjoy him forever; the Bible teaches us how to fulfil this purpose.

2. Share

We also come together around God’s Word to share our concerns, our questions and our insights into what it means to live out God’s truth in the world. The groups should be a space where people feel free to ask hard questions and share the difficulties as well as the delights of walking by faith in a secular society.

3. Support

We aim to support one another as brothers and sisters in Christ; to encourage each other by the very fact of meeting together. We also seek to support each other in prayer and to spur one another ‘toward love and good deeds’ (Hebrews 10:24.) Our aim in gathering round God’s Word is not simply to be informed, but transformed: growing in grace as we put into practice what we have learned from our Father in heaven.
